Nottingham walked through Melton's defence for two early scores.
Bradley Johnson's run and offload found John Sommerville, but he spilled the ball in the tackle and Jack Owens ran at defenders rather than try to outpace them down the line.
A better second half saw Oliver Liddar destructive, but possession was given away too cheaply and Nottingham added a late score.

Adam Rowlatt went close before Axi Hobil picked up from a set scrum and scored in the corner. From a scrum the ball passed through the backs and Hobil scrambled in a try with good support from Johnson.
Nottingham took a quick restart and levelled, but with a minute left Melton secured possession and Johnson executed a great move.
