In a hard-fought contest with numerous injury stoppages, Crane was forced to retire before half-time with a badly-bruised hand, Weatherdon took a similar knock and Wills was floored and winded when a Coalville attacker ran straight into him stick first.

Coalville suffered similar injuries, but went ahead from a well-struck penalty corner which left keeper Dymond stranded.

Melton struck back before the break through Wadkin's solo effort from the wing.

The decider came 10 minutes from full-time when a fiercely disputed ball popped out to Will Baker who calmly slotted home.

Melton had several more chances, but were denied by Coalville's quality keeper.

Melton: T. Dymond, Elkin, Weatherdon, Wills, Simpson, Cuthill, Crane, C. Taylor, Baker, Buttery, Wadkin, M. Dymond.
