TUESDAY 11AM: The Rosie May Home, an orphanage in Sri Lanka founded by Bottesford couple Graham and Mary Storrie in memory of their daughter, has been completed.
Staff have been appointed and the first of 24 children, victims of the 2004 tsunami, are expected to arrive shortly.

The home, in Boosa in the Galle district, will reunite brothers and sisters and give them the chance to grow up as a family unit cared for by live-in house parents.

Mrs Storrie said: "We had our first team of volunteers over in the summer and they had an amazing experience, not least because the pre-school run at the home is thriving with more than 100 children on its books.

"The volunteers worked extremely hard in challenging conditions of high humidity and temperatures of 32C, completing the interior and painting the perimeter walls with the help of the local village children and made a mural of handprints of all who contributed."

  • More child sponsors and volunteers are needed. For more information visit www.rosie-may.com
