TUESDAY 10AM: A fractious year for Melton's Town Estate was rounded off at a fiery meeting last night which saw the largest turnout in years.
Divisions within the feoffees have seen a major change in how the charity is run with power switching from the townwardens to a management committee.

But at last night's annual meeting four existing feoffees were re-elected with the current Junior Townwarden, Richard Sage, voted in as the new Senior Townwarden.

He beat incumbent Pat Cumbers by 182 votes to 89.

Mrs Cumbers, who was the first female to hold the position in the charity's 450 year history, is now the Junior Townwarden.

The feoffees re-elected were Derek Larder (154 votes), vice-chairman of the feoffees Peter Roffey (164), John Sanderson (159) and John Southerington (168).

The defeated candidates were Clive Baker (70 votes), William Forbes (58), Adrienne Holland (104), Allan Jackson (83), Peter Morris (62) and Geoff Onslow (58).
