Melton nursery 'thrilled' with Ofsted rating

Melton Mowbray Day Nursery and Preschool, which is based on Dalby Road, got a ‘good’ verdict across all areas quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development plus leadership and management.

The nursery, which is opposite Waterfield Leisure Centre, was commended by inspectors on how its team ‘help children learn how they can be kind and helpful’.

Their report, which has just been published after being an inspection in October last year, highlights how staff teach children strategies that they can use if they are feeling upset or frustrated.

For example, the nursery team has created calm spaces where children can relax and regulate their emotions.

Those with special educational needs and/or disabilities ‘are cared for exceptionally well.’

It is also noted that staff are quick to adapt to the routine of the day to meet the children’s individual needs.

The accurate assessment measures in place allow the nursery team to promptly identify gaps in children's learning, and any referrals made to external support services are done quickly.

The inspector noted that there are effective performance management systems in place to support the positive wellbeing of staff and help maintain a high-quality teaching skills.

Ashley Pattinson, nursery manager at the Melton nursery and preschool, which has 59 places, commented: “The team and I are thrilled to have achieved a ‘good’ rating with Ofsted.

"We put our children at the heart of everything we do, from the activities we plan to the training we provide our staff.

"It feels so good that this has been recognised by Ofsted.’

Inspectors said the nursery could improve by communicating more regularly with external services so children's learning and development are frequently reviewed with the input of specialist professionals.

Melton Mowbray Day Nursery and Preschool is holding an open day on Saturday April 20.

It will provide the opportunity for families to see the nursery’s fully-equipped playrooms and outdoor spaces, meet the team and ask questions about their setting.

They can also see the inclusive environment which is promoted to encourage curiosity, laughter and learning.
